Tinlhèlò Edition
The Tinlhèlò technique (also known as Gitandri) is a traditional African hand-weaving practice rooted in indigenous utility, architectural craft and complex geometric design, passed down through generations among the Bitonga-speaking communities of Inhambane, Mozambique.
Ancestral utility and cultural signifiers
This method uses raw, locally harvested materials such as Ilala palm fronds to build items that require exceptional structural integrity and geometric precision. Woven with precise tension and tight interlocking patterns, these pieces carry signature chevrons, step patterns and diamond grids built into the weave through exact strand counting and multi-directional plaiting.
