Our collective

Built from necessity

In Mozambique, the infrastructure for art, design and culture remains severely underdeveloped.

The absence of a formal value chain and the critical lack of spaces to showcase creative outputs routinely force brilliant minds to abandon their artistic callings. This is more than an economic failure. It is a societal crisis. For us as Africans, who are still fighting to recover our stolen artefacts and fully recognise our identity, the erasure of the creative spirit is an erasure of the self.

The Collective was born out of this pressure. We do not merely create products; we build the structures that protect our living history. At Dathonga, we are systematically documenting what is left, in the profound hope that one day we will all see and understand the full brilliance of what our ancestors left behind.
